I definitely enjoy reading The Great Gatsby as a graphic novel because, I mean, all graphic novels are fun. Especially now, though, I think reading the novel in this format has made understanding the story much easier. I think reading the graphic novel version in a high school classroom and reading the original novel in college would make more sense and be much more appropriate because there isn’t a ton of in-depth class discussion (or discussion at all) in high school classrooms, which is where most people read it, and it creates a division amongst the readers of the text. I like that the graphic novel follows a similar, but pastel, aesthetic of the film because I said in my other piece that that was the most enjoyable part of the entire GG culture. With everything happening at the moment, I do enjoy reading the GG in this format because it hasn’t taken me a long time to finish, and it’s a more entertaining way to engage with the text. I’m familiar with the plot in its entirety, so I wouldn’t say much changed about reading the graphic novel except for the fact that I feel like the actual plot points are more important than the elaboration on minute details that would be in the original text.
